Dog Breeds – Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky is a beautiful dog with a fascinating history. They were originally from Russia and used by the Chukchi tribe, which was a Siberian nomad tribe.

They needed dogs that could survive in the cold weather and could provide transportation in the harsh climate. They were important to this tribe because they could also survive on little food, which was needed at times.

As soon as the rest of the world found out about this breed, they fell in love with it and started to breed it all over the world. There are some small changes in today's breeds when compared to these original huskies from Russia.

Siberian Huskies look fantastic. They are normally between 20 and 24 inches in height, and weight between 35-60 pounds. Males are going to be bigger than females.

They also have two coats of fur which is unusual but necessary for the original climate they lived in. They have a dense undercoat and a topcoat that is made of short straight hair.

They come in different colors with tan, white, black, copper, and gray being some of the most common colors. You can describe Huskies as being almost wolf-like in appearance.

The temperament of a Siberian Husky is unique but favorable. Their behaviors can seem strange. For example, these dogs often howl rather than bark.

They love to run, and if you let them off a leash they have been known to run for miles away from their owners and not come back.

Many people describe Huskies as a dog that becomes bored easily, and when bored they might not listen to basic commands and it can become difficult to call a Husky to come in from the yard or garden or wherever they're roaming.

To help fight boredom and to keep Huskies happy, it is important to make sure to play with them daily.

This can be something simple like tossing a ball around and running around with them outside. Like with most dogs when you do not pay attention to them, or do not allow them to play, unwanted behaviors often result.

Unwanted behaviors in Huskies include things like excessive howling, chewing on various objects, marking their territory, and even crying and whimpering.

They do need to have constant training to learn and keep doing all of the desired behaviors you would want from a family dog. Most people believe they respond best to a positive reinforcement program.

Siberian Huskies are a good family dog but they can also be very independent and enjoy spending time alone.

They don't always need constant attention, but they are gentle and friendly and typically require at least 90 minutes exercise per day.

Siberian Huskies have above average intelligence and are known to be very observant. For example, they have been known to copy the behaviors of humans and do simple tasks like turning on lights with their paws.

The best way to keep undesirable behaviors like this from starting would be to keep this breed of dog occupied. If Huskies are learning new activities and leading an active life they are going to be mentally and physically healthy.
